WWE Releases Andrade Amid Charlotte’s Removal From WrestleMania Posters

WWE has granted Andrade his release after the former NXT and United States champion teased “good news” on social media.

Andrade had not wrestled a match in 2021 and was reportedly miserable in his final days in WWE. At his peak, Andrade wrestled one of the best matches in the history of WWE at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia. 46% of fans polled on WWE.com said it was the best match in the history of WWE, and it ranked No. 7 on WWE’s Top 25 Matches of 2018.

Andrade’s previous request for release had been denied by WWE as he began removing all references to the promotion in recent weeks.

“The rumors are true and I don’t know what the future holds but I want to make my dreams come true. thank you for giving me so much support these last days,” said Andrade in a March 18 tweet.

Andrade is currently engaged to top WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair, whose likenesses were curiously removed from WrestleMania posters this past week.

With AEW on a current spending spree, recently acquiring the likes of The Big Show, Christian and Sting, Andrade would represent the type of young, top-tier talent that can be a pillar of the promotion for years to come. With so many mouths to feed on AEW, however, and so little TV time (for now), it’s fair to question whether Andrade-to-AEW should be a foregone conclusion.

Zelina Vega, Andrade’s former manager, went through an ugly split of her own during 2020 amid WWE’s controversial edict against third-party deals. Wherever Andrade ends up next, a reunion would benefit both.
