Women’s Tennis Strikes Early, Tops Southeastern

HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women’s tennis team (8-2, 7-1) got out to a fast start and never relented in a 6-1 win over the Southeastern Lady Lions (5-12, 2-6) on Sunday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Complex.
OPENING STATEMENT
Salma Abdelrahim was paired with Estelle Vanthier for the second time this season and the duo was the first off court at flight three with a 6-3 win. Tristanne Dechoux and Lina Hohnhold followed with a win by a double break at 6-2 to take the first point. Flight two was unfinished with the Privateers trailing 5-4.
ROLLING ALONG
Vanthier was one of two Privateers who won a set at 6-0 when she accomplished the feat in the opening set of her win at flight three. She took the second set by a break at 6-4 to earn the second point of the day for the Privateers.
Anastasia Vaganova was the other who won a set without dropping a game. Vaganova was next off the court after a 6-3, 6-0 win at flight four against Teodora Mitrovic.
Lea Alguacil earned the clinching point on the day when she won 6-4, 6-1 at flight six. Alguacil moved her singles record to 6-2 on the season.
Hohnhold and Abdelrahim both engineered victories of their own in singles. Hohnhold took her match in straight sets at 6-3, 6-3. Abdelrahim went to a 10-point third set tiebreak and she outlasted Ximena Yanez 14-12 in that tiebreak.

NEXT UP
The Privateers return home on Friday, Apr. 3 when they face Nicholls. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the University Tennis Center.
