BATON ROUGE, La. – The Mississippi State women’s golf program finished in eighth place at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic on Wednesday. The Bulldogs shot a team score of 304 (+16) in the final round to finish with an overall score of 889 (+25) for the event.
Mississippi State bested four top-25 teams in the event, including No. 5 Florida State and No. 12 Georgia. Up next, MSU will start postseason play, beginning with the SEC Championship on April 14-18.
“I thought we positioned ourselves really well after the first day to give us a great opportunity for a strong tournament,” MSU head coach Charlie Ewing said. “That’s something we want to continue to do. On days like today, where we don’t perform in that circumstance as well as we want to, we have to reflect on that and grow from it. We’ve proven several times times this semester what we are capable of. We believe we can compete with the best teams in the country as long as he handle ourselves in the right way. We know going into post season that we can do that. It’s just putting it together for an entire tournament. We are building on the growth that we’ve seen and achieved through the season.”
Redshirt junior Hannah Levi tied for 14th after shooting a 5-over par (77) in the final round. Coming off of back-to-back under-par rounds, she finished 2-over for the event to pace the Bulldogs.
Graduate Clara Moyano shot a 3-over (75) with four birdies on the day to tie for 34th. Not far behind, sophomore Abbey Daniel tied for 39th with a 2-over (74) final round score, also carding four birdies.
