WWE NXT Results—Wednesday, January 13, 2020

Candice LeRae def. Shotzi Blackheart

Shotzi Blackheart seems to add more moves every week since she’s started in NXT. Thankfully, none of them resulted in her landing on her head this week.

Indi Hartwell did just enough to qualify her involvement a outside interference.

Finn Balor Appears Live

Finn Balor switches from babyface to heel with every passing sentence.

Pete Dunne declared Finn Balor was the poster boy for European wrestling, a title which I always thought belonged to The IIconics.

The Grizzled Young Vets def. Ever-Rise—First Round of the Dusty Rhodes Classic

The Grizzled Young Veterans’ promo while walking to the ring lasted longer than Ever-Rise’s entrance.

There was zero heat for Martel’s comeback since both teams are heels.

Johnny Gargano def. Dexter Lumis

Johnny Gargano’s Cleveland Brown’s gear was so perfect.

I never realized Dexter Lumis was from “Recluse, Wyoming.”

Dexter Lumis being rolled up as he hit a fallaway slam looked so cool.

KUSHIDA and Gargano in a one-on-one TakeOver match is the type of indy dork fodder that the Internet Wrestling Community was built for.

Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher Face off

I loved the idea behind this, but it got a little cartoonish with Tommaso Ciampa taking exception to being compared to a zebra.

Timothy Thatcher had better win this Fight Pit match next week.

MSK def. Jake Atlas and Swerve Scott

MSK turned out to be the former Dez and Wentz afterall.

This Atlas-Swerve feud is quickly becoming one of the worst feuds of 2021 as the two are now randomly teaming together.

Based on their gimmick from IMPACT Wrestling, MSK are the wrong initials to assign to this group, they really should be called THC.

There was no tag team dissension to speak of between Scott and Atlas. They just flat-out lost.

Xia Li def. Local Competitor

Xia Li makes a great Undertaker.

The announcers didn’t even have time to introduce Xia Li’s opponent.

We at least got to see the hand of the mysterious figure, and it definitely seems to be a woman’s hand.

The Undisputed Era def. Breezango—First Round of the Dusty Rhodes Classic

NXT thankfully snuck in a backstage altercation between Isiah “Swerve” Scott and Jake Atlas prior to this match.

This was one of the many moments where I became suspicious of an Undisputed Era implosion, this time in the form of Kyle O’Reilly turning on Adam Cole and Roderick Strong. However, with all the talk of his jaw being injured NXT is more likely to have The Kings of NXT get heat by doing more damage to his jaw. This is exactly what ended up happening.
