Where Tar Heels stand in updated 2022 Bracketology
The 2021-22 UNC Basketball season will be an interesting one as the Tar Heels usher in a new era with head coach Hubert Davis taking over for Roy Williams. While there is a long way to go until tipoff in the Fall, it’s never too early for any news regarding the upcoming season.
After Baylor cut down the nets in Indianapolis a few weeks back, the focus turned to the offseason and roster changes for programs.
It’s already been a very active offseason with the transfer portal as players have decided to leave programs and find a new home. That has already impacted the Tar Heels, losing Walker Kessler and Garrison Brooks to the portal, having to replace that production from a year ago.
Since Davis took over, the Tar Heels have added transfers Justin McKoy and Brady Manek while getting set to welcome in a two-man recruiting class for 2021. But what is the national perspective on UNC’s roster for next season?
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi released his latest Bracketology on Tuesday afternoon, setting some early predictions to his field of 68 and it’s good news for the Tar Heels. While they aren’t a top 4 seed in any region, Lunardi slots the Tar Heels in as a No. 6 seed in the South Region, going up against No. 11 Saint Mary’s/Nevada, which would be a play-in game.
Now, a couple of things to consider. There is a LONG way to go until next season’s NCAA Tournament and things are certainly going to change. Plus, how will UNC’s roster look come this Fall? Will Armando Bacot be back? Will they add another transfer or recruit potentially?
The Tar Heels still have some question marks despite returning Caleb Love, R.J. Davis, Kerwin Walton, Leaky Black and potentially Bacot, all players who saw significant playing time. These next few months will be big in terms of getting some of those questions answered.
