Vernon ties Gill St. Bernard’s – Boys ice hockey recap

Gill St. Bernard’s (2-3-2) jumped out to a two-goal first-period lead, but Dylan Shea and Vernon (4-1-2) roared back in what ended in a 3-3 tie.

Gill St. Bernard’s earned five power play opportunities in the game, scoring its first two goals on the man advantage to secure the 2-0 lead after the first frame, but it was an even affair from that point forward.

Despite only earning two power play opportunities, Vernon nearly matched Gill St. Bernard’s shot for shot, with the Somerset County squad only outshooting Vernon, 38-34.

Shea started the comeback for Vernon, cutting the lead in half in the second, and earning two points in the third period. He first assisted on Ayden Steinbach’s goal to make it 3-2 in the third, and then tied the game on Vernon’s only power play score.

Matthew Bloomenthal had two goals to lead Gill St. Bernard’s.
