Transfer news LIVE! Chelsea’s Lampard replacement shortlist; Buendia to Arsenal latest; Man United want Pedro

elcome back to our LIVE coverage of the January transfer window, detailing all the latest news and rumours today.

The winter window is officially open for Premier League clubs to start making any moves following a dramatic start to the season.

Manchester United have gone level on points with League leaders Liverpool. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is happy with his squad, summer signing Amad Diallo is set to join up with the Red Devils squad, Jadon Sancho is still a target, reports of a move for Jack Grealish won’t go away – and ‘the next Bruno Fernandes’ could be on their wishlist in the form of Sporting midfielder Pedro Goncalves.

As for Arsenal, January looks to be more about Mikel Arteta cutting his squad rather than adding to it, with Mesut Ozil’s future a chief concern. Still, the Gunners have been linked with Norwich’s Emi Buendia, Real Madrid playmaker Isco, AS Roma defender Roger Ibanez and more – so don’t rule out anything just yet.

Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea have the money to spend despite over £200m of summer arrivals, and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma – available on a free this summer – could be a surprise target. Though will Frank Lampard be in charge come February?

Liverpool are looking at defenders with Lille’s Sven Botman a possibility, while Jose Mourinho says any Tottenham arrivals would be a “big surprise”… but is that a smokescreen from the Spurs boss? Meanwhile, Dele Alli may be on his way to PSG with Mauricio Pochettino confirmed as their new head coach.

Ferdinand wants Grealish at United

Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United should get rid of Paul Pogba as soon as possible and snap up Jack Grealish.

“I don’t care if Pogba goes or not, Grealish is my man,” Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE.

“I have heard from a lot of people that he is diligent in all the work he does off the pitch to get to where he is now. You are seeing results week in and week out.

“He is one of those players that has looked at himself in the summer and thought, ‘Yes, I’ve done well last season, I’ve signed a new deal at my boyhood club, and I am going to go again’.

“If I am a manager of a top team in England, a top three or four team, then I would not allow him to stay there, I would go and take him.”

Chelsea draw up shortlist to replace Lampard

Thomas Tuchel, Max Allegri, Brendan Rodgers and Ralph Hasenhuttl are on Chelsea’s shortlist to replace Frank Lampard, reports the Independent.

Lampard is under pressure after seeing his slide slump from first to eighth in a month, losing four of his last six games in charge.

The manager’s job is currently safe but under constant review.

ICYMI: Tottenham put Son and Kane talks on ice

Tottenham have put all contract negotiations considered non-urgent on ice during the coronavirus pandemic, reports Dan Kilpatrick.

Spurs’ revenues have been decimated by the pandemic and manager Jose Mourinho suggested last month that it is impossible for clubs to tie down star players amid the ongoing uncertainty.

Son has made it clear that he would like to stay in north London long-term and any new deal would likely take him in line with the club’s top earners on around £200,000-a-week.

Spurs are also conscious that the time is not right to discuss an improved deal with Kane – who has three-and-a-half years still to run – given their income is significantly down on this time last year.

De Bruyne rejects Man City offer

Kevin De Bruyne has rejected Manchester City’s latest contract offer, reports HLN.

De Bruyne has been in discussions with the club over a new deal for some time despite having two and a half years to run on his current terms.

An extension is expected to be worth in excess of £300,000 a week with the player widely regarded as one of the best players in the world.

But Belgian newspaper HLN says City’s current offer is not acceptable for De Bruyne.

Arsenal must sell before they buy Buendia

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Emi Buendia is on Arsenal’s transfer shortlist, but that selling players remains their priority for now.

According to Romano, Arsenal will focus on moving on the likes of Sokratis and Ozil before turning their attentions to arrivals – and 24-year-old Norwich playmaker/winger Buendia could be one of them.

ICYMI: Man United want Pedro Goncalves

Manchester United have been linked with ‘the new Bruno Fernandes’ Pedro Goncalves.

Sporting snapped up Goncalves to replace Fernandes last January and has been in similarly devasting form, currently boasting 11 goals and 11 assists in the top flight.

The Express claim United are monitoring the former Wolves academy graduate.

Chelsea to sell FOUR to sign Rice

Chelsea have been tipped to sell four players to fund a January move for West Ham’s Declan Rice.

( Pool via REUTERS )

“One player Frank Lampard believes would massively improve his Chelsea team is Declan Rice,” talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook said.

“West Ham were surprised that Chelsea didn’t make a formal bid in the summer and they’re bracing themselves for that to happen, either now or at the end of the season.

“Before Chelsea can make their move for Declan Rice, who is their number one target, pretty much their only target – they need to get players off the books,” he added.

“Danny Drinkwater, Fikayo Tomori, Marcos Alonso – three big names that they want to sell. Willy Caballero, too, isn’t particularly happy with his place in the goalkeeping pecking order.”

And another!

Arsenal defender William Saliba has completed his loan deal to French side Nice.

The centre-back was not registered in Arsenal’s Premier League squad and has been sent out on loan to gain first team experience.

Arsenal’s technical director Edu said: “William Saliba is a player with a huge amount of talent and potential. We’re confident he will have a great career with us but we must remember that he is still only 19 years old and has a lot of time ahead of him.

“William experienced a very challenging time last year, with his playing time limited by injury and the early ending of the Ligue 1 season due to the pandemic.

“So together with William, we have decided that spending the rest of the season on loan with Nice is the best way for him to develop. We will be keeping in close contact with William during his time with Nice and look forward to seeing him make good progress until the end of the season.”

A done deal!

Manchester United youngster Max Heygarth has made his loan move to Brentford permanent today.

The 18-year-old has been playing for the Bees’ B-team over the past few months and has signed a contract which runs until the summer of 2022.

A bit of further evidence of Liverpool’s need for defensive reinforcements this month has come at St. Mary’s this evening, where Jurgen Klopp has named a team without a recognised centre-half as Jordan Henderson partner’s Fabinho.

It’s not quite the days of Harry Redknapp naming two goalkeepers on the bench to give the board a wake-up call, but the need is obvious.
