PBKS down MI by 9 wickets. On another slow turner in Chennai, Punjab Kings registered a much-needed victory over Mumbai Indians. The defending champions ended up up with only 131 in their allotted 20 overs. Rohit Sharma top-scored with a fifty while Mohammed Shami and Ravi Bishnoi picked up a couple of scalps each. KL Rahul (60*), Mayank Agarwal (25) and Chris Gayle (43*) then played crucial hands to ensure PBKS would cross the finishing line. [Scorecard]
RR, KKR look for change of fortunes. One win in four games is all Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders have had so far in the IPL, with the gap between the top three and the bottom four quite stark. Who will come out on top in this crucial game for both sides?
Middle-order woes. Right now, MI’s middling returns this season has left them in a middling position in the points table. And the underlying cause for that is how the middle order has fared.
No Archer in IPL 2021. Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Jofra Archer will miss the entire tournament. The fast bowler underwent surgery on his middle finger and only just returned to “bowling this week with higher intensity, and the ECB and Sussex medical teams will continue to monitor his progress,” the ECB said in a statement.

Hope the wickets don’t get worse as the @IPL gets deeper into the tournament..160/170 minimum not scraping to 130/140 cause the wickets are trash..

RCB crush RR by 10 wickets. Devdutt Padikkal put on an impressive exhibition of batting to crack a 52-ball 101 while Virat Kohli ended up with 72, as the opening pair steered RCB home. Meanwhile, none of RR’s bowlers could make an impact. The foundation stone of RCB’s thumping win was laid by the bowlers, with Mohammad Siraj and Kyle Jamieson picking up wickets upfront. Harshal Patel also bagged a three-for. [Scorecard]
Struggle at the top. RR’s powerplay struggles have haunted them since last season. In IPL 2020, RR never batted out a Powerplay without losing a wicket. It’s a trend that’s carried on to this season as well, despite a new opening pair.
Reward for hard work and perseverance. It was exactly two years ago when Mohammed Siraj was not just trolled in this day and age of keyboard critics, but the passionate RCB fans were calling for him to be left out of the side. Two years since, Siraj is a different bowler. Now the same fans describe him as an asset, and his turnaround, astonishing.
Injury worry. T Natarajan’s knee injury has aggravated and he is set to miss out on the rest of the IPL 2021. The 30-year-old may be advised not to take further part in the tournament.
Eyeing a turnaround. PBKS have struggled to strike the right team balance, with the playing eleven undergoing several changes. Meanwhile, MI would look to get back on track after a disappointing outing against DC.
