St. Rose over No. 20 Middletown South – Boys ice hockey recap

Ross Inderwies proved impenetrable.

The St. Rose (1-1) goalie stood on his head, making 32 saves while keeping Middletown South (3-1), No. 20 in the Top 20, scoreless on three power play attempts in a 4-1 win.

The performance helped St. Rose send a massive statement after an opening-game three-goal loss to Marlboro, bouncing back with its own three-goal win against a previously undefeated and ranked Middletown South.

Middletown South outshot St. Rose, 33-22, but St. Rose still jumped out to a 3-0 second period lead thanks to goals by Ryan Butchko, Aidan Grant and Ben Meyer. Butchko’s score came on the power play to give St. Rose its first goal of the game, and Butchko scored a second goal in the third period while St. Rose was shorthanded.

Nate Block scored for Middletown South.
