The leading sports magazine ‘Sportstar’ was felicitated Odisha with the Decade’s Best State for Promotion of Sports for the period from 2011 to 2020.
According to the official report, Former Indian field Hockey Player M M Somaya felicitated the award to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The special function was organized at the convention hall of Loka Seva Bhawan and many eminent sports personalities were present which included sportspersons like Sunil Gavaskar, Baichung Bhutia, Viswanathan Anand, and Aparna Popat.
After receiving the award Odisha’s Chief Minister stated that he dedicated the award to all the 4.5 crore people of Odisha especially the youths who will shine in every field and move towards a new and empowered Odisha.
“The youth have to be guided to productively utilize their energies and make them well-rounded personalities. With this vision, we have been pro-actively supporting sports across the State,” said the CM. He also stated that Sports have a major role in building a healthy and disciplined society.
CM Patnaik further stated that whether it’s disaster management or Covid fightbacks, the Odisha government has faced every challenge very boldly and came out with flying colours. He also thanked the jury headed by Sunil Gavaskar for recognizing Odisha’s efforts in promoting sports.
The Cm also talked about the success of Asian Athletics 2017 which was a huge hit within just 90 days. Due to which Odisha has now become famous for its flawless conduct of national and international sports events, even at a short notice.
The report further informed that CM Patnaik announced that Odisha is already building the largest Hockey Stadium in Rourkela for the Hockey World Cup 2023. Even Odisha is also building India’s first indoor athletics track and the state will be probably the only state for the indoor sports halls and fields across the urban local bodies which will be launched in the coming days and will be completed by 2022.
