Southern Miss men’s basketball season underway

Southern Miss men’s basketball home opener against William Carey is coming off a 66-51 loss at Jacksonville University in the team’s season debut.
Certainly, a disappointing loss to start year two of the Jay Ladner era but growing pains were always to be expected with the addition of nine newcomers.
The stat sheet tells a story that’s pretty easy to understand with the Golden Eagles shooting just over 30 percent from the field including 3-18 from deep and only 8-19 from the free throw line. Head Coach Jay Ladner said, “Our non-conference schedule is designed and used for to prepare us for conference play because we know that Conference USA is a one-bid league to the NCAA Tournament. So, I thought it helped us – disappointed as heck we lost, mad that we lost. But I thought it helped us to go on the road, as opposed to playing a lesser-than opponent at home to start with such a young group, so now we’ve gotten that behind us.”
The Golden Eagles and Crusaders will tip things off from Reed Green Coliseum at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
