Skidmore College winter sports season kicks off next week

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Skidmore College announced on Wednesday that the winter sports teams – ice hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s swimming and diving – will resume competition next week.
The teams began training on Monday, in accordance with the college’s campus security plan, a statement said. The ice hockey team will be the first to compete next Friday at Norwich University. The hockey team will have a 10-game slate. The basketball teams and the swimming and diving teams plan to schedule two to four competitions.
“It was a very careful and cautious move,” Skidmore chairman Marc Conner said in a press release. “We had to be fully satisfied with the health and safety issues. The plan we have developed is superb and in line with all best practices. I am really delighted that our more than 400 student-athletes are able to participate in the competition. Many of them haven’t played game since the arrival of COVID last spring. It’s a crucial part of their college experience, and I hope we can offer as many meaningful competitions as possible to our students.
