SA’s Lloyd Harris causes huge upset at Qatar Open by downing Stan Wawrinka

South Africa’s Lloyd Harris has caused an upset at the Qatar Open by beating No 7 seed, Stan Wawrinka in the first round. 

Harris, who qualified for the event, beat Wawrinka in three sets 7-6 (7/3), 6-7(6/7) and 7-5 in a match that lasted for two hours and eight minutes.

Harris managed 11 aces in the match to the 17 of Wawrinka but managed to save seven of the eight break points he faced.

He will now face Márton Fucsovics in the next round.

Dominic Thiem is the top seed for the event which also features Roger Federer who makes his long awaited return from injury.
