Raina set to return to competitive cricket to play Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Suresh Raina called curtains on his international career in late August along with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. After his retirement from the international circuit, he flew to the United Arab Emirates along with his CSK teammates.
Meanwhile, the cricketer returned home for some reason. Earlier, reports suggested that there was a rift between Raina and MS Dhoni. There were also talks that Raina was not happy with the room which was provided to him.
Later on, it was learned that Raina went to his hometown in order to be with his family. While there were days for Raina to return to the UAE again to take part in the IPL. He backed out of the thirteenth edition of the tournament citing personal reasons.
As the days progressed, CSK removed Suresh Raina’s name from its official website. Raina’s contract with CSK comes to a close this year. With the star cricketer already backed out of the tournament, it was the end of the road for southpaw with CSK.
Raina eyes return to cricket
The left-handed batsman represented India in 226 ODIs, 18 Tests, and 78 T20Is. He played 193 runs in IPL. The elegant southpaw scored 5615 runs in the 50-over format, 768 runs in Tests, and 1605 runs in T20Is. He scored 5368 runs in the Indian Premier League.
He hit 1 century and 7 fifties in Tests, 5 centuries and 36 fifties in ODIs. 1 hundred and 5 fifties in T20Is. He smashed 1 hundred and 38 fifties in the IPL. He is one of the greatest T20 batsmen in modern-day cricket.
The veteran cricketer is looking forward to making a return to competitive cricket in the 2020-21 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. As per the reports, BCCI is keen on having the upcoming season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy hosted just before the 14th edition of the IPL.
Former Indian cricketer to lead Uttar Pradesh
The southpaw will lead the Uttar Pradesh side for the upcoming tournament. While talking to Dainik Jagran, the former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina echoed that he will lead the Uttar Pradesh team.
The left-handed batsman can take pride in the fact that he led Uttar Pradesh in the 2015-16 edition. The upcoming season will see the return of former Indian cricketers to competitive cricket.
After being dropped from the cash-rich league due to personal reasons, Raina will be part of the Uttar Pradesh team. The 2020–21 season will be the 12th edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which will start from 19 November to 7 December 2020.
The domestic T20 league will have teams from various state associations. Nonetheless, BCCI called for a protocol to be strictly followed amidst the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy would serve as an important platform for T20 materials ahead of the mega IPL 2021 auction. It will be interesting to see how Raina would lead UP for the upcoming season.
