Page’s experience shines in rivalry win over Grimsley

Veteran leadership was on full display for Page’s girls basketball teams as the Pirates earned a convincing 42-25 road win over Metro 4A Conference rival Grimsley on Friday.
Page (5-2, 2-1 Metro 4A) was led by the senior duo of Reagan Maynard (12 points, five rebounds, five steals) and Meredith Fennie (10 points, 2-of-4 3FG), along with juniors Kirah Lineberry (eight points) and Anna Schmedes (six points, 10 rebounds, four assists).
After the Pirates jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, the Whirlies closed the period on a 9-2 run to take the lead going into the second quarter.
That lead, however, was short lived for Grimsley. Page answered back with a 13-0 run, fuelled by a pair of corner threes from Fennie, a triple from Maynard and a couple of buckets from junior Kirah Lineberry. The Whirlies scored just two points in the period, giving the Pirates a 20-11 lead at halftime.
Grimsley’s shooting woes continued in the third quarter, as the Pirates outscored the Whirlies 10-2 in the period to take a 30-13 lead into the fourth quarter.
Junior captain Destonie Tisdale scored a team-high eight points for Grimsley (5-3, 1-2 Metro 4A), while senior Tajaminah Russell came off the bench and scored seven points in the final two minutes for the Whirlies.
