In 2020, Kevin Harvick should have won the Cup Series championship. He snagged a mind-boggling nine wins in a season and many suggested that he was the favorite to win the title. Unfortunately, he did not win when it was absolutely necessary, and so he lost out on a Championship 4 slot.
In 2021, he has to do it all over again and try for the title one more time. The big question is, can he keep the same momentum in the 2021 Cup season?
Harvick’s golden run in 2020, only to miss out, is proof that NASCAR is not just about winning more races than anyone. In fact, it is more important to win in the right place at the right time.
However, this has also proved that the Stewart-Haas Racing team is a force to be reckoned with. The SHR team can duke it out with the like of Hendrick Motorsports, Team Penske, and Joe Gibbs Racing.
Kevin Harvick may have his work cut out for him
Admittedly, the 2021 season may be a massive unknown for everyone. In 2019, Kyle Busch won the championship with five wins to his name, but second-placed man Martin Truex Jr won seven. Once again, it is a matter of winning in the right place at the right time.
Since Harvick did not seal a win during the ‘Round of 8’, he was extremely vulnerable in the Martinsville race. Owing to this, he was forced to resort to desperate tactics on the final lap of the race.
Needing 10th place, he found himself behind Kyle Busch, who was the only one between him and a berth. Sadly, his desperate lunge backfired and he lost out.
In 2021, Kevin Harvick will definitely be a lot wiser and smarter. However, it could theoretically be difficult to replicate his 2020 dominance, until everyone’s pace is seen at the 2021 Daytona 500.
