ATHENS, Ohio — The Ohio men’s golf team is set to compete in the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championships, which will be contested this weekend at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. First and second-round action will take place Friday (April 30), with the third and final round set for Saturday (May 1).
The Bobcats are coming off their best finish of the 2021 spring season to date as they closed out the regular season portion of the schedule by tying for second place with Valparaiso with a combined team total score of 886 (+34) at the Wright State Invitational, which was contested over two days (April 18-19) at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio. Four Bobcats finished in the top-30 of the tournament. Senior Zach Mandry (Solon, Ohio) led the way for Ohio, taking seventh with a 216 (+3) while senior Zach Crawford (Vandalia, Ohio) finished 10th with a three-round total of 219 (+6).
Mandry’s seventh-place finish came after he tied for fourth at the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate (April 12-13) with a with a 207 (-3), helping Ohio place fourth with a combined three-round total of 851 (+11).
Ohio’s best individual finish of the season came at the Ross Collegiate Classic (March 8-9), where senior Tanner Johnson (Venetia, Pa.) turned in a second-place finish with a three-round total of 213 (-3) to finish as the runner up.
The Bobcats are taking aim at winning their first MAC title since 1980. Ohio also won the league tournament in 1951, ’52, ’53, ’54 (tie), ’55, ’57, ’58, ’59, ’60, ’61, ’63, ’64, ’65, ’67, ’69, ’71 and ’79.
