No. 12 Men’s Golf places third at N.I.T.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 12 Texas Men’s Golf team fired a 14-under 244 on Sunday to climb to a third-place finish at the National Invitational Tournament, being held at the OMNI Tucson National Golf Club. Texas finished 31-under as a team with a score of 833 this week.

Pierceson Coody, fresh off of earning his first collegiate medal at the George Hannon Collegiate last week, was the low Longhorn at 13-under par this week. He shot in the 60’s in all three rounds in Arizona, capping the tournament with a 6-under 66 on Sunday to finish tied for second. Coody made six birdies, one eagle and only two bogies in his final round.

Behind him, Travis Vick and Cole Hammer earned top-20 individual finishes at 8- and 6-under par, respectively. Vick’s 8-under mark helped him finish tied for 14th, while Hammer tied for 17th two shots behind him. Vick shot under par in all three rounds this week, posting back-to-back 70’s on Saturday followed by a 4-under 68 in Sunday’s final round.

Mason Nome finished tied for 30th this week at 2-under par, while Will Thomson tied for 44th at even par.

The Longhorns are scheduled to return to competition next month at the Calusa Cup in Naples, Fla. The three-day tournament is slated to be held April 4-6 at the Calusa Pines Golf Club. Live results will be available throughout the tournament on
