• Sophomore guard B. Artis White led the Broncos in their opener with 17 points. He is the son of former Spartans basketball player Benny White, who was the team’s assist leader in 1976-87.

• Spartans senior guard Joshua Langford missed Michigan State’s Friday game against Detroit Mercy due to a knee injury but is expected to return against Western Michigan. Spartans junior forward Joey Hauser also missed the last seven minutes against Detroit Mercy due to what Tom Izzo called a bruised knee.

• Michigan State played Western Michigan on Dec. 29 of last year. Foster Loyer started in place of Cassius Winston in that game and scored a career-high 16 points to help the Spartans win, 95-62. Before last year, the Spartans and Broncos hadn’t played since 1998.
