Men’s Tennis Travels to Charlotte for 2021 Big South Conference Tournament Semifinals

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb men’s tennis will travel to Charlotte, today, for the semifinals of the 2021 Big South Conference Tournament. The ‘Dogs will face #2 Radford in the opening round.
This season marks the third-straight appearance in the championship’s tournament and their fourth overall appearance. The team has never made an appearance in the championship game.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs are 0-2 against the Highlanders in tournament play, dropping matches in 2012 and 2019. In the 2019 season, the #5 Highlanders upset the #1 Runnin’ Bulldogs 4-2 en route to the team winning the conference championship that season.
When these teams met in the regular season, Radford came away with a 6-1 win on their home courts. In the previous matchup, the ‘Dogs Victor Putter was unavailable for the match, leading to everyone playing a flight up. Breno Plentz secured the lone point of the day, defeating Demis Taramonlis 2-6, 6-4, 11-9. In doubles, Chrisjan Van Wyk and Connor Enslin won 6-3 over Konstantinos Raptis and Aditya Balsekar on the #3 court.
Radford is using the same lineup for this match as they used previously in the season. Gardner-Webb on the other hand will have a completely different look as Putter is available for this match. None of the matchups from earlier in the season are the same ones for today, providing more intrigue as to how today’s match will go as there are no head-to-head individual records for these players from earlier this season.
