AMHERST, Mass .– The No.18 men’s hockey team from Providence College skated in a 0-0 draw against the 8th UMass in game one of the home and home playoffs at the Mullins Center on Friday afternoon (Jan. 22). The Brothers claimed the extra point in Hockey East’s standings with a 1-0 victory in the shootout. SCORE Providence – 0 | UMass – 0 – OT (PC wins shootout, 1-0) RECORDS Providence – 5-5-3 (5-5-3 HEAM) | UMass – 9-5-2 (9-5-2 HEAM) LOCATION Mullins Center– Amherst, Mass. GOAL Jaxson Stauber (PC) – 28 saves Filip Lindberg (UMass) – 27 saves NOTES -Both teams skated all three periods and overtime without a point. The Brothers beat the Minutemen in the first two periods by a 20-9 margin, but were unable to take advantage of seven power play opportunities. -Stauber held on in the third period and overtime, stopping all 19 shots he faced in the final 25 minutes of play.
-Brett Berard scored in the shootout to give the Brothers the extra point in the Hockey Est standings. – Jaxson Stauber recorded his third shutout of the year, stopping all 28 shots and improving his goals-against average to 1.88 and save percentage to 0.922 in 11 games this season. – This is Providence’s second scoreless tie of the season. The brothers also won a shootout victory over Vermont on Jan. 1 after a scoreless tie. Overall, Providence 2-1 in shootings in 2020-2021. – Greg Printz bragged about a team with four shots on goal.
