Emory University freshman Mariana Chong (Lima, Peru) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as Women’s Golfer of the Week following her performance at the Golfweek Invitational. She becomes the first player in the history of the program to be recognized for the award.
Playing on the 5,800-yard, par-72 El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Resort in Howie-in-the Hills, Florida, Chong led the Emory effort and tied for seventh overall out of 40 players with a 54-hole score of 238 (79-80-79). She either shot or tied for the squad’s best round twice during the three days of competition. She totaled a team-high 29 pars and registered three birdies during the tournament.
The Eagles finished fourth out of eight teams at Golfweek Invitational.
