Local Golfers Want the Return of Tournaments at Paramus Golf Course

PARAMUS, NJ – Where are the tournaments?
That’s what a resident, who is a member of the borough’s golf course and identified as Nancy, asked the club manager, Andy Schuckers, at the April 6 virtual public meeting of the Golf Commission.
Schuckers said the public golf course is short-staffed and still reeling from a basement flood of the clubhouse, an issue that will cost the facility approximately $150,000, likely covered by insurance.
Nancy said she had a petition with 200 names requesting the return of amateur tournaments, utilized largely by club members.
“It doesn’t take a lot of staff to run tournaments,” she said. Prior to COVID in 2020, there were local amateur tournaments. “We basically just play and run the tournaments on our own.”
“The current staff can’t handle any additional duties,” Schuckers said. “They’re barely keeping up with what they have to do already.”
“The members look forward to these tournaments,” Nancy said.
Schuckers said he would review the request to bring back tournaments for next year.
