LADY RAIDER PREVIEW: Kansas – Texas Tech Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team returns to action this weekend when it hosts Big 12 foe Kansas for its last home game of the regular season. The Lady Raiders and Jayhawks are scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m. at United Supermarkets Arena.

Saturday’s game against the Jayhawks will mark Senior Day at United Supermarkets Arena. Prior to the game, the Lady Raiders will recognize seniors Lexi Gordon, Vivian Gray, Maka Jackson and Jo’Nah Johnson. Due to COVID-19, all four are eligible to return next season if they choose.
The Lady Raiders will honor the life of former Lady Raider Michelle Thomas during halftime of Saturday’s game. The Texas Tech family was heartbroken to learn of Thomas’s passing on August 29th of last year. Thomas was a member of the Lady Raider basketball team from 1992-1996, and played on the legendary 1993 NCAA Championship team. Along with being a part of the 1993 title run, Thomas was a part of four SWC Championships and two SWC Tournament titles during her time as a student-athlete in Lubbock, while helping the Lady Raiders to a 119-17 overall record. Described as deeply loyal and always having the backs of her teammates, she is deeply missed among the Texas Tech family.
– The Lady Raiders and Jayhawks will be meeting for the 37th time in the two program’s histories when they clash on Saturday in Lubbock.
– Tech is 24-12 all-time against the Jayhawks and 12-5 in Lubbock.
– The Lady Raiders have won two straight over Kansas as well as five of the last six meetings. Tech is 7-3 against the Jayhawks over the last 10 meetings.
– The Lady Raiders took the last matchup in the series after outscoring the Jayhawks by 10 in the fourth quarter to win, 75-65.
– Texas Tech has won two-straight over Kansas in Lubbock, including an 89-72 victory last season at the USA.


The Kansas Jayhawks (7-12, 3-10 Big 12) come into Saturday’s game following an 84-82 loss to Iowa State in Lawrence on Wednesday, which followed up a pair of losses at Kansas State and West Virginia last week. Kansas is led by Holly Kersgieter, who’s averaging 16.7 points and ranks in the top 10 of the conference in field goal percentage at 43.2 percent. Ioanna Chatzileonti averages 7.4 rebounds per game to lead the Jayhawks, who rank No. 2 in the Big 12 in rebounding at 40.16 per game as a team. Head coach Brandon Schneider is in his sixth season at Kansas.


The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team fell short of a win against Oklahoma State on Saturday at United Supermarkets Arena, 81-66.


The Lady Raiders were led by  Lexi Gordon, who had 21 points on a season-high five three-pointers. Vivian Gray was close to a double-double, recording nine points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and four blocks.

Maka Jackson had eight points, three rebounds and a career high five assists. Khadija Faye and Bryn Gerlich each had 10 points, with Gerlich’s tying her career high in scoring.


The Lady Raiders hustled, outrebounding a stout Cowgirl frontcourt led by standout Natasha Mack, 39-32. Tech had 14 offensive boards on the night.
