It was John McGinn who was full of praise for his Aston Villa teammates following last night’s battling 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Villa fought from behind to make it five unbeaten heading into 2021 as Anwar El Ghazi’s strike cancelled out Olivier Giroud’s first-half header.

“We’ve got great character in the squad this season,” McGinn said. “Couple that with ability, grit and determination. Everyone was grafting till the last second and fought for every ball. Last season we might have given away a cheap goal but we worked hard and got a point.

“I’m sure that Aston Villa fans will agree, with the character and ability we’ve got in that dressing room we can go far.”
