Johnson, Wilder Earn NJAC Weekly Football Honors

Senior Duo Highlight Red Hawks Return to Action, Victory Over Kean

Montclair, NJ – Senior wide receiver CARSEN JOHNSON and senior return specialist ZAHIR WILDER picked up conference weekly honors on Monday as they were named the NJAC Football Offensive and Special Teams Player of the Week.

Johnson and Wilder played big roles as the Red Hawks return to the field for the first time since the end of the 2019 season, knocking off Kean University, 41-12 in Union.

Johnson set two single-game receiving marks as he pulled in five receptions for 212 yards and a touchdown in the victory. His yardage total broke the mark of 197 set by Bryan Scipio against Kean in 1986 and matched by Eric Magrini (vs. Iona) in 2001. Johnson also broke Amod Field’s 1989 standard for yards per catch, averaging an amazing 42.4 yards per reception. Johnson gave MSU a 14-0 lead in first quarter with a 55-yard grab and also had a 76-yard reception.

Wilder jump-started the game for Montclair returning the kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. It was the first kickoff return for a score in Wilder’s career and the first for the Red Hawks since 2019 Wilder’s 93-yard return is the second-longest in program history trailing only Bill Harrell’s record 95-yard kickoff against Cheyney in 1955.
