DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s golf program announced that John Peters has signed his National Letter of Intent to enroll at Duke and compete for the Blue Devils next season.

A top-100 junior in the nation, Peters ranks 75th by Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) in the class of 2021 with a -2.16 scoring differential. The Carlisle, Pa., native is ranked No. 86 by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).

“John is a shining example of a student athlete and human being who is truly committed to excellence in everything he does,” said head coach Jamie Green. “In the classroom he is a straight-A student who challenges himself by taking almost exclusively AP courses. He is a leader, an Eagle Scout and has served on his school’s Student Council.”

On the junior circuit this past summer, Peters won the Pennsylvania Junior Boys Championship, closing with a final-round 67 to secure the title. He was also a winner at the AJGA UHY Celadone Junior Championship by posting three consecutive rounds in red numbers (70-68-70) to win medalist honors.

“John impressed us with the mental toughness he earned from his years wrestling and playing football and baseball in his youth,” said Green. “He has a large frame, he’s fit and strong, and his work ethic has led to dramatic improvements in scoring average over the last few seasons. He had a great summer, and both of his wins came just weeks after his verbal commitment to Duke. We can’t wait to have John and everyone in his family on our squad.”

Peters is the second signee to Duke’s 2021 class, joining Kelly Chinn.
