Jasprit Bumrah is BCCI’s highest-paid cricketer in 2020

It’s official that India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is BCCI’s highest-paid cricketer in 2020 and not Virat Kohli.

Kohli returned home to be with his actor-wife Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child, with BCCI granting him paternity leave.

As the India skipper missed the last match of 2020, the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Bumrah pipped him in the BCCI earnings for 2020.

Reportedly, Bumrah pocketed INR 1.38 crore from match fees this year, while Kohli featured second in the list with INR 1.29 crore. Bumrah is playing his fourth Test this year having already played nine ODIs and eight T20Is in 2020.

Though 2020 didn’t start well for the Gujarat pacer as he struggled to replicate his white-ball success on return,  the Indian Premier League helped him bounce back. Mumbai Indians lifted their record fifth title riding his impressive show.

Following that, Bumrah, who failed to give breakthroughs in the Sydney ODIs, impressed in the final ODI at Canberra and has carried that form into the ongoing Test series.  His four-for in the first innings of the Boxing Day Test helped the visitors bundle out Australia for 195, giving themselves a good chance to break even in the 4-match rubber.

An Indian cricketer is paid INR 15 lakh, INR 6 lakh and INR 3 lakh for Tests, ODIs and T20Is, respectively.  Both Bumrah and Kohli have Grade A+ contract and take home an annual salary of INR 7 crore through the BCCI annual contract. India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is the only other Indian cricketer with a Grade A+ contract. But injuries had forced him to miss many international games. With only three ODIs and two Tests to his name, Rohit bagged only INR 30 lakhs as match fees.

Ravindra Jadeja, who has a Grade A contract earns INR 5 crore annually. The Saurashtra all-rounder, who is currently playing his second Test of the year (having already featured in nine ODIs and four T20Is) has reportedly pocketed INR 96 lakhs in 2020 in match fees and is the third in the list of earnings.
