Cricket fans across the world are closely following the Road Safety World Series T20 2020-21 where several legendary cricketers from the past have got together to entertain cricket fanatics across the globe. Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen – some of the biggest names in world cricket are plying their trade in the tournament with an aim to promote road safety in India. In Match 9 of the tournament, Pietersen-led England Legends defeated Tendulkar-led India Legends by 6 runs.

After the win over India Legends, Pietersen took to Instagram to share a message for England selectors. With England having suffered a 3-1 loss against Virat Kohli & Co. in the Test series and with a five-match T20I series lined up next, Pietersen told the selectors that players of the England Legends squad were all available for selection.

“So England CAN beat India in India! How cool was that game? England selectors – we’re all available!” the former England captain captioned a photograph.

In context of the match, Pietersen led from the front as he hammered 75 runs off just 37 balls. While opening the innings with Phil Mustard (14 off 15), the two batsmen added 45 runs for the first wicket in just 3.5 overs. After Munaf Patel removed Mustard, Pietersen and Darren Maddy (29 off 27) added 82 runs for the second wicket. By the end of 20 overs, England Legends reached 188. Yusuf Pathan was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he claimed three wickets while Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel bagged two wickets apiece.

In reply, India Legends got off to a forgettable start as Virender Sehwag (6), Sachin Tendulkar (9), Mohammad Kaif (1), Yuvraj Singh (22) and Subramaniam Badrinath (8) were back in the hut with the scoreboard reading 56/5. Irfan, along with brother Yusuf, then revived the innings to an extent by adding a 43-run stand for the sixth wicket. The match seemed to be done and dusted with the dismissal of Naman Ojha as the scoreboard read 119/6.

However, Irfan and Manpreet Gony then launched a counter attack and got India Legends within winning distance. Eventually, India Legends fell short by 6 runs. Irfan remained unbeaten on 61 off 34 balls while Gony scored 35 runs off just 16 balls. Monty Panesar was the star for England Legends with the ball as he bagged three wickets for just 15 runs and also bowled a maiden over.
