BHOPAL: The income-tax department has attached a privately owned state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Bhopal under the Benami Property Act. It sprawls on around 20 acres and is estimated to be worth Rs 25 crore. I-T officials say that they found certain documents during raids which indicate connections with some retired IAS officers, and a separate case would be filed on this. The stadium was built to meet standards of international cricket matches.
Chief of I-T department and principal chief commissioner told the media that after the implementation of Benami Act, more than 800 benami properties, worth over Rs 500 crore, have been attached in the last three years in MP and Chhattisgarh. Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, the department attached 80 benami properties in MP and 35 in Chhattisgarh in 2020, he added. These prized properties are in the form of land, houses, shops, plots, flats and fixed deposits in cities like Jabalpur, Indore, Gwalior, Bhopal, Raipur and Bilaspur.
