Hokies earn fifth-consecutive NCAA bid

BLACKSBURG – For the fifth consecutive season, the Virginia Tech men’s soccer program has been selected to appear in the NCAA men’s soccer championship.
The Hokies (6-6-3, 5-5-2) will face Oregon State (9-4, 6-4 P12) on Sunday, May 2, in Greensboro, N.C.

Virginia Tech wraps up a regular season unlike anyone has ever seen before, spanning from October to April. In this season, Tech achieved a ranking as high as No. 4 in the country to conclude the fall portion of its schedule. The Hokies had to readjust in the spring after 2020 ACC Midfielder of the Year Daniel Pereira was selected No. 1 overall in the MLS Draft by Austin FC. On top of that shake up, Tech struggled to get a healthy full-strength side together.

After dropping two matches in double overtime against top-five opponents (No. 1 Clemson and No. 4 Pitt), Virginia Tech put together a solid conclusion to its regular season, defeating No. 15 UNC, Notre Dame, and drawing UMass in double overtime.

The Hokies now extend the program-record streak of NCAA tournament appearances, and head coach Mike Brizendine surpasses Oliver Weiss in most NCAA men’s soccer championship appearances by a Virginia Tech coach with five.
