Veteran center Dewayne Dedmon has found a new home, as Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports that the Miami Heat plan to sign the 7-footer to a deal as they look to bolster their frontcourt rotation.

Dedmon, 31-years-old, will be set to begin his eighth season after entering the NBA as an undrafted rookie in 2013. His most recent stop was in Atlanta with Trae Young’s Hawks, where he averaged 8.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steal per game after being traded by the Sacramento Kings.

An athletic big man who has become known as a shot-blocker, rim-runner and floor spacer (he’s made .333 percent of his 3-point attempts since 2017-18), Dedmon’s skillset could prove valuable in the postseason. While he may only be used sparingly unless there’s an injury, his abilities on both ends will help Miami mitigate the loss of center Kelly Olynyk.

The Heat, 26-25, traded Olynyk to the Houston Rockets as part of their package for star guard Victor Oladipo.
