For the third time in four years, Colorado’s best girls basketball player will be Stanford-bound.

Following in the footsteps of Cherry Creek’s Jana Van Gytenbeek, Regis Jesuit’s Fran Belibi and Discovery Canyon’s Ashten Prechtel, Grandview High School junior Lauren Betts announced her commitment to play for the Stanford Cardinal Wednesday morning on Twitter.

Rated the Class of 2022’s top player nationally by ESPN HoopGurlz, Betts chose the Cardinal over a host of perennial women’s basketball powers, including UConn, Baylor, South Carolina, Oregon, Louisville and Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-7 post averaged 17.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game in helping lead Grandview to the Class 5A state title game last year. The game was eventually canceled by COVID-19, however, robbing the Wolves of a chance to avenge a title game loss to Cherry Creek the previous year.

At Stanford, Betts will team up with the player — Van Gytenbeek (Class of ’20) — who hit the game-winning shot over her outstretched arm in that title game. She will also get at least one season to play alongside Belibi (’19) and Prechtel (’19).
