Gavin Hunt aiming to kickstart Kaizer Chiefs with positive result in Soweto derby

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt on Thursday said his team are currently taking the Premier Soccer League {PSL) season on a game-by-game basis but insists they are aiming to improve and reach new objectives.

The 56-year-old will be looking to overturn a recent 5-0 aggregate drubbing at the hands of fierce rivals Orlando Pirates when the two sides meet in a league clash on Saturday.

Hunt admitted that Chiefs’ season has so far not gone as planned but were not looking too far ahead and were instead looking to improve gradually on a weekly basis.

“We’ve got a long way to go,” Hunt said.

“There’s parts of the game that we need to drastically improve on and those are the things that gets worked on often behind closed doors.

“There’s a lot to be done, regarding certain things, it’s a work in progress but we’ve been taking small steps and we’ll continue taking it one step at a time.”

Approaching the half-way mark of the season, Hunt added that he was aiming to see drastic improvements from his squad who in the past have been guilty of making huge individual errors.

“At a club like Kaizer Chiefs you can’t be building for the future,” Hunt added.

“But we’re in the situation we’re in and if you take our current points tally and you double it we wouldn’t win the league.

“So we’re going to have to do the best we can and right now we’re taking it one game at a time.

“We’ll try to get to the next game and reset our goals.”

Kick-off for this weekend’s must-see Soweto derby is at 15:00.
