CELINE and Abhishek Amada picked up their first tennis racquet six months ago as a way of balancing school life and keeping fit. The duo will continue their newfound love of the sport when they join school students in taking part in Eastport Tennis Club’s holiday program. The focus will be on fun and making friends while learning the basic art of tennis. Club coach Greg Alchin said people must register before the day to secure their place in either the one-day or three-day camps available. “They don’t need any prior experience, they can be beginners, they can be four-year-olds through to 16-year-olds and they can be holidaymakers,” he said. Two camps are on January 4-6 and January 20-22. “The two in December are known as the Christmas Present Shopping tennis camps which work out very well for the parents,” Mr Alchin said. “They’ve got three hours while the kids are playing tennis and the January ones are normally hot off the Australian Open but unfortunately that’s going to be in February this year.” Tennis has been one of the few sports to have benefited from the COVID-19 pandemic this year with court hire on the increase. Higher numbers of players have also made their way onto the courts. “They might be touch football or netball players who can’t play team sports so they’ve come down and had a game of tennis because they’re active people and want to have some sport,” Mr Alchin said. The school holiday tennis camps run between 8.30am and 11.30am. To register your interest phone 0427 466 760.
