Date: 16 January 2021

Venue: Cape Town Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs climbed into the top of eight of the DStv Premiership with a 2-1 victory away to Cape Town City on Saturday evening.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Kearyn Baccus were recalled by Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt while City were boosted by the return of Keanu Cupido, Mpho Makola and Thabo Nodada.

Amakhosi got off to a perfect start after Ngcobo opened the scoring in the seventh minute after firing past Peter Leewenburg with the outside of his left boot after a loose ball fell on his path.

Gavin Hunt’s charges doubled their lead in the 19th minute after Happy Mashiane raced clear on goal from Samir Nurkovic’s square pass and rounded Leeuwenburgh to slot his low strike into a gaping net.

The Citizens came close to pulling a goal back with seven minutes left of the first stanza after Makola lifted a free-kick from the edge of the box into a danger area and Thamsanqa Mkhize guided his header just wide, before  Bradley Ralani’s low strike was turned away by Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi at full stretch.
