Building England team for the next World Cup matters more than winning a grand slam | Sport

In terms of results and trophies, Eddie Jones has one hell of a record with England. A grand slam in 2016, titles in 2017 and 2020, and another tilt at the clean sweep in his sights. He has overseen an astonishing turnaround in English Six Nations fortunes.

In the first 16 years of this century England won a mere four titles, one of them the 2003 grand slam. Jones is one championship from matching that achievement with a decade in hand. It is no wonder that England fans feel frustrated with those of us who criticise their head coach.

The problem is that Jones admitted the RFU had snatched him out of his contract with Stormers in South Africa primarily to win the World Cup.
