Luca Carnemolla tallied two goals en route to High Point-Wallkill Valley’s 5-1 win over Newton-Lenape Valley at the Skylands Ice World in Stockholm.
Trey Kaplan of Newton made 30 saves, facing two High Point powerplays as High Point out-shot Newton by a 35-20 margin.
Carnemolla opened scoring with four minutes remaining in the first period.
Brandon Mudrick tallied an additional goal two minutes into the second period and Carnemolla notched his second goal of the evening a minute later. Devin Haines slammed one to the back of the Newton net off the right-hand face-off zone, and carried High Point to a 3-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the second. Freshman Brandon Shinneleon notched his first high school goal three minutes later, to close out the period with High Point leading, 4-0.
Mike Cinotti of Newton scored with nine minutes remaining in the final frame. Newton’s offense picked up in the final minutes of the game, attempting 10 shots onto TJ Ward of High Point within eight minutes.
