Bloemfontein Celtic managed to overcome SuperSport United on Tuesday afternoon, although the home side got the winning goal in controversial circumstances.

Following his debut against Cape Town City on Sunday, Reagan van der Ross made his first start for Celtic whilst SuperSport handed Siyabonga Nhlapo, Ghampani Lungu and Evans Rusike a return.

Celtic came to the fore a little before the half-hour mark, with a snap-shot on the turn from van der Ross after a cutback from Victor Letsoalo saved by goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

It was United though who finished the half the strongest as an outstretched save from goalkeeper Sipho Chaine denied a rasping shot in the area from Sipho Mbule into touch.

Celtic went ahead right after halftime when van der Ross showed composure from close-range to drill a loose ball from poor defending by United into the roof of the net.

The lead lasted just seven minutes as Matsatsantsa drew level with a curling strike outside the area from Lucky Mohomi following a loose ball from a corner.

Celtic were reduced to a goal-line clearance as Bradley Grobler closed-in with a low dink from close-range following a pass from Thamsanqa Gabuza.

Siwelele Sa Masele nearly regained the lead with a snap-shot from the shoulder of the area in the last 20 minutes by Motebang Sera, but the frame of the post rescued United.

Sera made sure ten minutes to the end as he popped up at the far post to tap home a cross from Tchilimbou, who was in an offside position when he collected the ball in the build-up, although the assistant did not raise his flag.

The MTN8 runners-up threatened a third with an overhead kick from Thato Lingwati while Chaine denied Mbule the equaliser with a thumping save, as the hosts held on to claim three points.
