BCCI mulls Women’s ‘A’ programme, invites application for head coach | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has decided to start ‘A’ tours programme for women’s cricket. On Tuesday, the board has invited applications for the head coach’s role for women’s cricket.
Former India opener WV Raman’s contract as coach of the senior team had expired last October but he was asked to continue for the recent home series against South Africa Women.
With India women’s team slated to travel to England in June for the one-off Test and three T20Is and ODIs, the board decided to invite fresh applications. The deadline for applications is April 26.
According to the advertisement floated by BCCI, it says that the new head coach will be responsible for coaching Women’s National Team, Women’s India ‘A’ and Women’s India U-19 team. The coach will also supervise women cricketers at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
With the inaugural U-19 Women’s World Cup pushed back to 2022, the BCCI is also getting ready to form a pool of junior cricketers once the IPL finishes.
“The BCCI apex council is due to meet on April 16 to formulate a strong plan for the development of women’s cricket. It is important to have a good domestic structure to create a big pool of women cricketers. The ‘A’ tours and U-19 programmes will be a beginning. However, it will also partly depend on how the pandemic relents over the next few months,” a BCCI source told TOI on Tuesday.

BCCI has also invited applications for a post in the junior selection committee. The post was left vacant by former Debasis Mohanty who was promoted as senior national selector in December.
The new chairman of selectors will be decided on the experience of the members of the committee. TOI understands former Bengal pacer Ranadeb Bose is a favourite for the job.
