GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The Augustana women’s tennis team completed an in-conference sweep against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Friday. The Match against Bemidji State was won 7-0 and the match against Minnesota Crookston was won 4-0.
The Vikings now move to 12-2 on the season with the Beavers moving to 4-6 and Minnesota Crookston falling to 0-10.
“Solid day of tennis today,” Augustana head coach Marc Kurtz said. “It’s always nice to finish a day with a couple of wins. We have a busy week coming up and need to get healthy and have some quality practices this week.
“The Matches coming up are important and we need to be prepared for some battles.”
Match One: Augustana 7, Bemidji State 0
Augustana started the day with a sweep against the Beavers. The Vikings took the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. Freshman Duo Valeriya Monko and Florentia Hadjigeorgiou bested their opponents 6-4. The No. 2 slot of Laura Arce Vieyra and Grace Goble won with a score of 6-2.
In singles play, Augustana reigned victorious with all six matches going to the Vikings. Freshman Monko extended her undefeated conference play winning 6-3, 6-1, In No. 1 singles. Hadjigeorgiou took the win in the No. 2 slot going 6-1, 6-2. Vieyra won No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0, performance and so did Margarita Chouliara in the No. 4 slot. Goble and Rebecca Falkner both garnered wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 slots winning 6-2, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
Match Two: Augustana 4, Minnesota Crookston 0
The Vikings doubled back to achieve another sweep against the Golden Eagles. To take the doubles point, No. 1 doubles of freshman duo Hadjigeorgiou and Monko defeated their opponents 6-0. No. 2 doubles, Arce Vieyra and Goble followed suit also converting a 6-0 victory.
In singles play, Hadjigeorgiou won No. 1 singles winning 6-0, 6-1. The number two and three slots played by Arce Vierya and Goble both completed double-bagels winning 6-0, 6-0. No 4 singles were not finished allowing the Vikings to win 4-0.
The Vikings will be competing at home next Wednesday hosting Southwest Minnesota State at the Huether Tennis Centre. The match is slated for 4 p.m.
