W.F. West closed the regular season out strong with a 240-280 victory over Rochester at Riverside Golf Course on Monday.
Bearcat senior Camryn Bostwick won match medalist (43) by one stroke over teammate Tukker Rosbach (44) with a 43. Dirk Plakinger shot a 46, Brock Bunker a 48 and Hunter Delisle a 49.
“They’ve got a couple guys that can play,” Rochester coach Eric Holmkvist said. “It was out second-best day. We played well.”
Rochester was led by Luke Barth’s 52, while Rowdy Edminster shot a 53, Brady Moen a 56, Hyde Parrish a 59 and Xavier Mendez a 60.
Rochester drops to 2-4 overall and will host Black Hills on Wednesday and close out the regular season with a non-league home match against Montesano on Monday. W.F. West will now spend the rest of the week preparing for districts, which is set for March 17 and 18 at Mint Valley Golf Course in Longview.
The Warriors are on track to send a full team to districts for the first time in Holmkvist’s three years as head coach. The Warriors previously sent four or five players max in the past three years.
“It’s a nice thing to have to be sending that many,” Holmkvist said.
Tigers Can’t Keep Up With Bobcats
Centralia couldn’t match Aberdeen’s strong swinging Wednesday, falling 208-284 in a 2A Evergreen Conference matchup on the road.
Senior Jesse Kuykendall was the Tigers leading golfer, shooting a 43, which was five strokes off the match medalist.
“Jesse played well,” Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said. “This was his best score of the season. He’s capable of taking a couple strokes off but he played pretty well.”
The Tigers’ only other senior, Andrew Mitchell, shot a 53, while Wyatt Baumel shot a 57, Brady Sprague a 64 and Sawyer Terry a 67.
“Andrew has been right in those low 50s all season,” Gronseth said. “He had another consistent round.”
Aberdeen’s Nolan King was match medalist with a 38, while Charlie Anciah shot a 39, Baylor Ainsworth a 42, Logan Sequin a 44 and Trevin Nichols a 45.
Centralia drops to 0-5 on the season and hosts Tumwater on Wednesday in the season finale.
